All About Dan

1. How did you get into radio?

I’ve actually been asked that one often, with a somewhat hostile tone – like “How did YOU get in here?” I haven’t come up with a decent answer.

2. What do you love best about working at Life 89.1?

When I go to bed at night, I know that I’ve been a part of a ministry that is spreading the Good News of Christ and that we are really helping people. That’s absolutely priceless.

3. Name one thing fans would be surprised to hear about you?

I’m comfortable with public speaking and radio stuff, but I’m kinda awkward with people one-on-one.

4. What is your most memorable encounter with a fan?

Before I was married, I had a stalker… a listener that kept sending flowers and candy anonymously, with these romantic letters. It sounds sweet, but it was actually pretty strange. I thought my co-workers were pulling a prank on me, but it turned out to be serious.

5. Has something totally unexpected ever happened on-air?

I never really know what’s going to happen on the air. It’s all unexpected.

6. What is the best advice you have ever received?

The best advice I ever received was actually a pastor handing me a copy of Josh McDowell’s “More Than a Carpenter”. I read it in one night and gave my life to Christ when I was done.

7. If you could invite any two people (dead or alive) to dinner, who would they be?

Jesus, and myself 15 years ago.

Fast Facts

1. Favorite book: The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. I know, I’m a nerd.

2. Ideal way to spend a day off: At home with my wife.

5. Biggest fear: I’m afraid of heights. I know, kinda weird for a skydiver.

One or the Other

1. Cat or Dog — Dog, without a doubt.

2. Mac or PC — PC, but only because I can build one from scraps (in other words, very cheaply). If I knew how to build a Mac, I’d probably like ‘em.

VITAL STATS

(or, “Stuff I put on the website so I don’t bore everyone to tears talking about myself on the radio”)
I grew up in St. Louis – Go Cardinals! :)
Before working in Christian radio, I’ve had experience in classic rock, country, and talk radio formats
I’m a newlywed – My beautiful wife Debra and I were married May 22nd, 2006 on the shores of Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri
I’ve never met chocolate that I didn’t like.
Except so-called ‘white chocolate’ – you can’t fool me! That’s not even really chocolate!
Some of my passions (after my Savior) include songwriting, theology, exploring and learning about this beautiful planet, technology, history, and the pursuit of the perfect barbecue.

Hi Dan. Since I was home on my day off today and listening to the station, I checked out your web page. I loved your comment about white chocolate! You’re so right!

I wanted to ask you a question about the book you mentioned,”More Than a Carpenter”. I love to read and like to get recommendations for books from people. I’m female and in my 50s. Do you think that this would be a book that I would enjoy? It must be inspirational; and I like those kind of things. Sounds like it really moved you!

Thanks for your time. I really love the station!
    God bless.

I sure would like to hear some of the you have written.

Wouldn’t mind eating some of that barbecue either.

    Hi Robin

“More Than a Carpenter” is a very short book, basically an explanation and defense of the Christian faith. It borrows heavily from C.S. Lewis, and I even kinda think of it as “Mere Christianity Light”.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone. It’s appropriate for adults of any age (teenagers could understand it, too!)

    It changed my life!
