Well, look’s like McCain has selected his running mate - Sarah Palin from Alaska.

When Doug, our station manager, mentioned to me who McCain had chosen, my reply was basically, “Who is that?”

It’s hard to make a good decision on who to vote for without really knowing what these people believe. I found a great website that goes in-depth on voting records and what each candidate stands for - Ontheissues.org - check it out, and cut through all the media bias!

For Christians who’ve always wanted to dabble in “Guitar Hero,” but can’t bear riffing to songs like “Cheat on the Church,” “Cowboys From Hell” or “The Number of the Beast,” finally, there’s a video game for you.

Next month, video-game developer Digital Praise releases “Guitar Praise,” a wireless guitar game that promises “inspirational fun” as players jam to 52 hits by the likes of contemporary Christian musicians TobyMac, Newsboys and Skillet.

Potato Wars

Okay, Okay.

So Brian and Laura this morning talked about a potato that was shaped like Mickey Mouse…

I say, “Big Deal! I’ve got a potato that looks like a PERSON!”

The Spud Boy

Story Here.

Boo-Ya!!

Take the Life Challenge!

During the recent summer Olympics, we all watched young athletes take on extreme challenges to their bodies, their minds and their will…

But, if we were to ask every one of those amazing athletes, we’d find they didn’t do it alone along the way! There were parents, coaches, mentors all rallying around those athletes. Each contributing, supporting, sacrificing to make that Olympic dream happen.

Here at Life 89.1, we’ve got a big challenge ahead of us, too. Our Fall Sharathon is just days away - Sept. 16-18th.

And, like those Olympic athletes, we can’t go it alone. We need YOU and Your Family to rally around Life 89.1 together we CAN meet this challenge.

How?

Ask your family to take the “Life Challenge.” Between now and Sept. 16, try cutting back on one or two “extras” that can then be contributed to Life 89.1’s Fall Sharathon. Say, giving up one restaurant meal per week… or maybe playing a board game at home instead of renting movies… The savings really add up! And, by contributing what you’ve saved to the Life 89.1 Fall Sharathon, you will help us to continue leading people closer to Christ.

Some ideas for the Life Challenge:

-Car Pool to church for a few Sundays with another family close by.
-Turn the A/C thermostat up a few degrees during the day while everyone’s at work/school.
-Pack your kid’s lunches for a week and skip the cafeteria lunch line.
-When you go to restaurants, skip the Coke and order water.

Let us know about YOUR Life Challenge - leave a comment below!

An atheist who has spent four years trying to ban the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited in public schools is now challenging the motto printed on U.S. currency because it refers to God.

Michael Newdow seeks to remove “In God We Trust” from U.S. coins and dollar bills, claiming in a federal lawsuit filed Thursday that the motto is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.

Newdow, a Sacramento doctor and lawyer, used a similar argument when he challenged the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools because it contains the words “under God.”

So, what do YOU think? Should it stay on our currency, or should it go? Here’s your chance - MSNBC has put it to a vote!

So… what’s on their iPod playlist?

I thought it fitting for today, as Hurricane Fay looms on the horizon…to take a look at some very recognizable lyrics from Casting Crowns.  May we always look to the Lord for our strength, help and protection.   A great reminder today is to: “Be anxious for nothing, but be in prayer about everything”.

15 PM EDT shows clouds near Cuba where Tropical Storm Fay continues on her trek towards the US. The storm could gain hurricane status before making landfall over Florida.

Praise You in This Storm
words by Mark Hall/music by Mark Hall and Bernie Herms

I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
and it’s still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
“I’m with you”
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.

Chorus:
And I’ll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone how can I carry on
if I can’t find You
and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

Chorus

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

The Rev. Rick Warren, often called America’s most influential pastor, will be hosting Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain for what’s being called the civil forum on the presidency.

Warren, who heads up the country’s fourth largest church, is also an author whose books have sold more than 30 million copies.
The candidates will appear together at Warren’s 20,000-member Saddleback mega-church in southern California where they each will be interviewed for an hour.

“I think everybody will be surprised. I’m going to ask all of the tough questions. I just intend to ask them in a civil way,” says Rick Warren.

Why would a Muslim accept Christ? Why would a Muslim even begin seeking, searching for a relationship with God outside of what they’ve been taught in the Koran?

Some of what Yousef had to say about his change of faith… “I’d say about more than 95 percent of Muslims don’t understand their own religion. It came with a much stronger language than the language that they speak so they don’t understand it … they rely only on religious people to get their knowledge about this religion.”

“Second, they don’t understand anything about other religions. Christian communities live between Muslims and they’re minority and they (would) rather not to go speak out and tell people about Jesus because it’s dangerous for them.”

Friends, there are a lot of Muslims out there, and what is God’s plan for reaching them? It’s you. It’s me. And there is no plan B.

So, as I read Yousef’s words, I realize two things:

1. Yousef says that 95% of Muslims don’t understand their own religion, and it makes me wonder how many Christians really understand our own faith. A recent study showed that over half of evangelical Christians in the U.S. believe that there are many roads to heaven. How can somebody have conflicting beliefs - that the Bible is inerrant (which evangelical Christians believe) but that somehow there are other roads to heaven (which the Bible clearly says there is only one road - Jesus) - How does this happen? Well, frankly, I think it’s because we’ve stopped understanding our own faith. We aren’t digging deep enough into WHY we believe what we believe. If we are going to be effective as God’s plan to reach the world, we need to start with our own faith.

2. Yousef is talking about Christians in the Middle East when he says that “Christian communities live between Muslims and they’re minority and they (would) rather not to go speak out and tell people about Jesus because it’s dangerous for them.” He’s right - it IS dangerous for them. But what about us? What about you and I right here in the cozy lap of civilization? Do we risk our lives just by telling our neighbor about Christ? For the most part, no. You’d think that in a nation such as ours, where all faiths are more or less tolerated, and to share our faith doesn’t usually put our lives in direct danger, that we’d all be a little more vocal, a little more sharing. And hey, I’m guilty as anyone else here - why don’t I step up a little more? If I did, could I make a difference?

We are God’s plan for reaching the world, and telling them that God loves them, and there is no plan B. If we are going to reach people, first we need to understand our own faith. Then, we need to step out of the boat and DO something.
